Is Peanut Butter Keto?
Peanut butter is a nostalgic food for a lot of us, so it’s exciting news to learn that it works great on keto. Like most nut butters, peanut butter is high in protein and fats, while being low carb. The trick is finding peanut butter that says “no added sugar” on the label. There’s also plenty of organic peanut butter that are delicious and have minimal ingredients. We love keto desserts that have peanut butter because it’s full of healthy fats and can be pretty filling, too!
What sweetener can I use for peanut butter bars?
Since these keto chocolate dessert bars do not require baking in the oven (or at all), you can use our sugar free syrup as a sweetener. We suggest using our sugar free honey, but you can also use flavors like caramel or maple.
Are these chocolate peanut butter bars grain free?
Yes, we’ve made these classic peanut butter bars totally grain free. How? We used almond flour, which is one of the most reliable grain free flours out there. We also use coconut flour, which is also naturally grain free. This is great for a paleo diet, and of course it’s very keto friendly. We also love how coconut flour brings a little sweetness to the recipe.
Wondering why we use both coconut flour and almond flour in the same recipe? Almond flour tends to have more moisture than wheat flour, so adding a drier flour such as coconut helps balance out this keto recipe.
How to swirl chocolate?
You might have noticed that we have some beautifully swirled chocolate peanut butter bars showcased in this recipe. You can always use one type of chocolate, but if you’re feeling fancy you can pick two flavors of sugar free baking chips and swirl them for dramatic effect. We suggest using white and dark chocolate, but you can also try our peanut butter chips instead of white chocolate if you want to keep it vegan friendly.
To swirl, first cover the peanut butter with the darker flavor of the baking chips. Then, spoon large dollops of the lighter baking chips in four or six separate areas on top of the dessert bar. Grab a toothpick or a knife and swirl the chocolate into patterns, blending the two flavors slightly.
Are these peanut butter bars vegan friendly?
Yes, these keto chocolate peanut butter bars are vegan friendly! ChocZero’s dark chocolate chips contain no milk or animal products, which makes them great for those on the vegan diet.
How to store chocolate peanut butter bars.
While peanut butter bars can be stored at room temperature, if your kitchen tends to be a little warm, it might be better to store these in the refrigerator. You can also cover the bars tightly and freeze them for up to 3 months.
Can I use almond butter instead of peanut butter?
Yes, you can absolutely use almond butter or any other nut butter for this recipe.
Make clean-up easy for this keto dessert.
While this recipe is already pretty straightforward, you can make cleanup even easier by putting parchment paper down in the dish so that they lift out without any mess.
How does sea salt enhance the taste of chocolate desserts?
As you can see, we added a note to sprinkle some sea salt flakes on top as a final touch. We have found that sea salt helps bring out the rich flavor of chocolate, that’s why you’ll find it in many of our dark keto bars. Peanut butter also is enhanced by salt, since it helps balance out the creaminess of the treat. Not to mention, sprinkling salt on top of dessert is fun. We like to pretend we’re Salt Bae!
If you’re going for a low sodium dessert, you can omit the sea salt flakes entirely. It’s still a delicious treat without this little addition.
What kinds of chocolate chips can I use?
You can use any of our sugar free chocolate chips. If you want to keep it vegan friendly, we suggest dark and peanut butter chips. For a striking dessert, try white chocolate: white chocolate and peanut butter go very well together, like our sugar free peanut butter cups.
